When I was little, a fair would come and visit the village where we lived and I would go along with my little brother - just like Sam does with Tom in this story. My brother is younger than me and at that time he was a lot smaller so he couldn't go on all of the rides. That meant that I couldn't go on them either. Some of the rides that my brother could go on were too small for me- so I had to stand and watch.
My original idea for this story was to have the two brothers go on a little rollercoaster together but have the big brother frightened of it while the little brother laughs and enjoys the ride. Unfortunatley, that would have been too complicated for this little book.
